New Years Resolutions
It’s hard not to follow suite with my resolutions for the year like the rest of the blogs out there so here it goes.
1. Keep my focus on quality training, especially for the next 3 months as McNaughton 100 approaches
Quality Training mean on a weekly basis;
Minimum of 50 miles running
2 days in the gym lifting weights or cross training
1 hour of stair climber (can be off-set will hill training)
Proactive stretching everyday! Don’t wait until it’s too late and I’m injured.
1 long run of ~marathon distance per week followed up by a mid distance run the following day OR 2 mid-distance runs on back-to-back days.
2. Eat right;
lots of veggies, fruit, lean protein, good carbs
Cut out the crap, soda, candy, unnecessary sugar
I’m staying off of alcohol until after McNaughton, I want my first beer of the year (not including New Years :) ) to be at the finish line.
3. Stick with my gear
You don’t know how hard this is for me. I love getting new stuff to test out, but I’m putting a foot down and sticking with what I have now. From gear I mean food, gels, drinks, socks and shoes… done, end of story.
4. Have Fun!
I’ve had more fun and feel more motivated in my training then I have in a long time. This comes off of having one of my best training weeks ever. Maybe that is why I feel good. I finally broke through that 50 mile week, hit my days at the gym, lots of trails with hills and I’m still feeling great and not sore. I know lots of ultrarunners blow through 50 mile weeks all the time, but I don’t. I’ve been fighting injuries for a while so this happening for me is huge. Maybe it’s because I decided to relax and enjoy it all. I’m blessed or lucky or whatever you want to call it to be able to do what I do. So I’m not going to be pissed or mad when things don’t go my way, I’m going to remember what I am able to do and take it all in.
5. Do my best to not let training effect family. I do a pretty good job of this now, but could always do better.
I think that covers it. So a belated Happy New Year to you all and best of luck in 2009!
